Week 11; 23rd-27th November

 CLASS 1- 24th November

SCIENCE COUNTS

objective : - reading / speaking about scientific discoveries

                   - phrasal verbs

Musical challenge  - song 2

2. Song 2 - things that have water :

3. Song 3 -a piece of clothing :

4. Song 4 -nationality :

Digital textbook page 34 - look at the pictures and tell which ones are discoveries and which inventions .

Page 35 listen and read the text

Ex 4 / 34 : Answer the questions

1. What did Newton think about when he saw the apple fall to the ground ?

He thought why things fall DOWN , not UP or SIDEWAYS.

2. What did Archimedes see when he got out of the bath ?

He noticed that the level of water decreased , it went down .

3. Why did he shout " Eureka" ?

He shouted " Eureka " because he understood the phenomenon.

4. Why are these discoveries not complete accidents ?

They are not complete accidents because Newton and Archimedes had to think about the explanation of the phenomenon.

Using the text we solve ex 1/ 36

move down to a lower level or place = go down

move upwards, rise = go up

drop from a place where it was attached or contained = fall out

think of an idea / plan = come up with

happen as the result of doing something = come from

fall to the ground= fall down

Orally ex 2/ 36 and 3/ 36

Task - Watch the next video and write about an invention you consider more important than the others and explain why .  ( around 6, 7 sentences)

Your homework is to be posted under as a comment until the next English class.

CLASS 2- 25th November

  1. In my opinion an invention that I consider more important than the others from the video is plastic because the example if you will go in a trip and you want to take with you a bottel of water you can not take with you a bottle of water made of glass because you risk breaking the bottle and you also can not take with you a cardboard box with water. You should take with you a bottle of water made of plastic.
The question is ”we could live without plastic?”
Definitely yes! Because could not be the end of the world if we would not have plastic and more than that, our world wouldn't be as polluted as now, without plastic. Most of us are smart and we would find a way to live without plastic.
But my task is to talk about why I consider plastic more important than the others things from the video. I consider that because people in this days are addicted to things that are not good for them like Coca-Cola, Ice Cream, potato chips, microwave oven and more than that. I consider plastic do not make people addicted or something else. Plastic is more important because there are a lot of things made of plastic that we need to have like: kitchen bin, coat hangers,
phone case, pens, toys for the development of creativity for children, footwear(not all) and more than that.

  2. I think the most important inventions are antibiotics invented by Alexander Fleming, a Scottish scientist.
An uncovered Petri dish near an open window became contaminated with mold. Fleming realized that the bacteria near the mold were dying. He isolated the mold and identified it as Penicillin, which he found to be effective against all Gram-positive pathogens.
From penicillin, in all these years many antibiotics have been discovered that help a lot of diseases.
The other inventions are also quite important, but for me antibiotics are the most important and effective

  3. I think the most important invention from the video is that of
the implantable pacemaker because with its help many lives are saved. This invention is performed to treat abnormal heart rhythms. Every year, more than 400,000 pacemakers are implanted in the world. The implantation of pacemakers has become quite common even in developing countries. If at first, this stimulator worked for a short time, now with the help of high-performance batteries, the stimulator can work for up to 10 years. After this intervention, patients can lead a normal life.

  9. In my opinion, the most important invention is Antibiotics because the antibiotic substances kill the virus you carry. So, the antibiotic fights the virus and destroys it. But it seems just as important to me the Matches, because if you don't have the opportunity to make a fire for something to eat or simply to burn something, you can get a match and you're done. I think all the inventions in the video are useful. For example, if you feel like eating something sweet and it is hot outside, you can eat ice cream or if you want to nibble on something unhealthy but you have a craving, you can eat chips.

Willam Cullen the man,the legend, the father of modern refrigerators. This Scottish hero reminds us that not all heroes wear capes some wear kilts. This man used a pump to create a vacuum of air over a container with diethyl ether then boiled it absorbing the heat from the surrounding air.Everybody has a refrigerator and we should pay respects to this man who made our lives a lot more easier then our ancestors.

I think that the discovery of antibiotics is more important than the others because I find antibiotics more useful than discoveries that are not as important as coca-cola or ice cream cones.  We take antibiotics more often and they are beneficial to us, while Coca-Cola is not beneficial to us. But they all have a specific role and importance.

  13. For me, one of the most important inventions is the antibiotic, because this is a substance against bacteria.
It is used in the treatment and prevention of many infections.
Antibiotics revolutioned medicine by Alexander Fleming who discovered the penicillin.
Antibiotics may be given as a preventive measure.
We usually take them by mouth.
But even if they help us, they can not treat viral infections like cold, flu and most coughs.
They can have side effects like: diarrhea, upset stomach and nausea.

    Antibiotic:
Antibiotics are used in human and veterinary medicine, but they are also very useful in agriculture. Many ancient cultures, including Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, use molds and some plant sources to treat infections due to their antiseptic properties.

  17. There are a lot of inventions but which one do you find the most useful one?
In my opinion, the most useful one is implantable pacemaker invented by Wilson Greatbatch.
The product can recreate the heart's rhythm.
This pacemaker was successfully implanted for the first time in 1960.
This invention has been saving lives since then.
This is the reason why, I consider this invention more important than the others.

Without it summer would be very hursh.Cars without air conditioning are like a hell,in winter you die of freezing and in summer you die of heating. The first modern air conditioner was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier who invented it wile while trying to solve application problem at a printing plant in Brooklyn, NY.

  19. I consider that one of the most important inventions are X-rays. Obviously, matches, antibiotics, safety glass, antidepressants and especially potato chips have been and are very important for people, but X-rays have a very important role in medicine. With their help we can discover what health problems we have, although I am sure that there are other ways to find out, but this invention has made our lives much easier and they are still very useful for everyone.

John walker was a Brittish Farmacist who invented matches in the earky 1800s.He was using wooden sticks to put all the chemicals togheter while he noticed that one of the sticks had some chemical sticked to it and when he tried to scratch it of it lighthen up. He made the life in 1800s easier without electricity. They are useful now, after 200 years and it will still be.

In my opinion antibiotics are the most important invention out of all the others in the video. They can treat infections caused by bacteria, some patients may be allergic to them, that's why they must be tested, and if the result is negative, the antibiotic can be administered. I think they are useful because patients are very important and they must be treated.
